Understanding Partnership Capabilities (Earn, Spend, Convert)

The three ways a Buyer can use a Seller's loyalty currency.

When requesting a partnership, Buyers choose how they want to use the Seller's loyalty currency. These options are called partnership capabilities. Which ones are available depends on the Seller and is shown on each Seller profile in the Marketplace.

1. Earn

The Buyer credits the Seller's loyalty currency to its own customers. Examples: a retailer issues miles for a purchase, a hotel issues points for a stay.

Earn is the most common capability and is supported by every integration path (API, CSV upload, Customer Portal).

2. Spend

The Buyer's customers pay with or redeem the Seller's loyalty currency. Examples: paying part of a booking with miles, exchanging points for a voucher.

Spend requires the customer to sign in to their Seller loyalty account during checkout. It is available via the API and, for voucher-based redemption, via the Customer Portal.

3. Convert

The Buyer's customers convert the Buyer's own loyalty points into the Seller's currency. Example: 2 Buyer points become 1 Seller mile.

Convert requires the Buyer to operate its own loyalty program and to integrate via API.

4. Naming in the API

In the API and the Seller profile the same capabilities appear as reward (Earn), redeem (Spend) and exchange (Convert).

5. Choosing Capabilities

Select only what you will use at launch. Additional capabilities can be discussed with the Seller and qiibee later. Integration patterns for each capability are described in the Best Practice / UX Guide.
